FOR SURGEONS
Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) is an
exciting medical/technical service provided in the operating
room that has proven valuable in complex spinal and cranial
surgical procedures. During surgery, IONM:
- Identifies neural structures.
- Detects impending neurological damage
- Provides an early warning to the operating
surgeon.
- Facilitates prevention of permanent damage
to the nervous system.
If your patient must have spinal surgery,
this section explains the IONM process and how surgical monitoring
can benefit both you and the patient. You may also want to
visit the FOR
PATIENTS section to review the information provided for
patients facing surgery.
